GitHub is not requiredto mint. But when you paste a repo URL (or connect GitHub from the topbar), three fields get pinned into your token's metadata JSON:
repoUrl— canonicalhttps://github.com/owner/repoform.commitSha— optional 7-40 hex SHA, fixes the token to a specific build.language— the repo's primary language, when we can read it.
Why it matters
Provenance is what differentiates a sea.codes token from a generic memecoin. Wallets and explorers that read the metadata can show the repo back to the holder; aggregators can group tokens by language; bots can index by org.
